LESEDI LA RONA – OUR LIGHT

I was fortunate enough to attend a private viewing in Geneva on May 17th 2016 and see the second largest rough diamond ever discovered in person. It took 111 years since the Cullinan to unearth such rarity and it was beyond incredible to hold Lesedi La Rona in my hand. Lesedi La Rona was unearthed by LUCARA DIAMOND CORP in November 2015 in Karowe mine in Botswana part of AK6 pipe. Lucara stated that 60% of final sale value will go back to people of Botswana as part of their royalty agreement.
Lesedi La Rona weighs 1,109 carats and is described as a Type IIA diamond which is the purest form of a diamond without any traces of Nitrogen and impurities. Based on characteristics  that Lesedi La Rona exhibits, it is estimated that formation of such outstanding rock crystal goes back to 6 billion years and might be part of cosmic evolution, which cosmic carbon would a befitting name.
This magnificent diamond is going for auction on June 29th at Sotheby’s in London for estimated price of $70million.
